In the early hours of July 24th, 2026, our project partners in Malaysia rescued a young girl - believed to be around 10 years old - from an horrific trafficking situation. They are calling her Asha. It means hope.

By the time she was rescued, she was barely alive. She had been shackled for an unknown period, cutting off circulation to her legs so severely that gangrene had set in. She was taken directly into emergency surgery, where doctors needed to amputate both legs (one above the knee, and one below) and two fingers in order to save her life. She survived the surgery but remains in critical condition, placed in a medically induced coma to give her body a chance to recover from the trauma of both her injuries and the surgery itself. Her medical team is hopeful.

While her identity and exact age is unknown, our team who have over two decades of experience in trafficking victim recovery, and who are themselves survivors of human trafficking, said Asha had been left for dead and was unresponsive when recovered. We may never know the full extent of the trauma she has already experienced at such a young age.

Our MPPs will take Asha into their program for immediate stabilisation.

Our job is to fund her care.

THE NEED
What Asha needs right now.

We estimate Asha's immediate care will cost somewhere between $8,500 and $21,000. Costs like this are hard to predict exactly in the middle of an active medical crisis, and we'll update this page as real numbers come in but we didn't want to ask without giving you a sense of the real scale.

  • Emergency surgery and hospitalization, including ICU care during her critical recovery from sepsis, gangrene, malnutrition and amputation, an estimated $6,500–$17,000

  • A wheelchair, sized and built for a growing child, to give her mobility and independence as she heals. Early estimates put this at around $600–$3,300

  • Genital reconstructive surgery for injuries sustained from the abuse she survived, made possible through our partners' network of volunteer surgeons who keep costs as low as $750 per procedure

This is one of the most severe cases our partners have handled. The costs of her care go well beyond what we're normally raising through the Survivors Surgery Fund, which is why we're asking directly for Asha.
